The South Coast

June 6, 2008

The beach at Lepe

We visited the coast near Southampton at Holbury during half term. We are unfamiliar with this part of the country, having been only once or twice before.

Our good friends, who we went to see, took us to the beach at Lepe. A pebbly beach, which had some very interestingly shaped groins, eerie and spooky. Here are a few pictures.

In the afternoon we had a walk somewhere in the New Forest. No idea where it was, but we enjoyed exploring the wood and larking about in the trees. I managed a couple of quick sketches, the latter from memory.

Justifying the blog

June 1, 2008

This blog is an attempt to record, reflect on and organise things experienced, thought, seen, imagined and enjoyed. It is largely focussed on artistic, cultural, aesthetic, environmental and creative issues. On a personal level it is a means of drawing a thread between all the thoughts, ideas, experiences that I have around those issues. I always carry a small notebook/sketchbook, to record thoughts, ideas, places visited, things seen, etc. I am a compulsive leaflet collector, picking up bits of paper, cards, magazines etc. that look interesting, could be useful later, or inspire me in some way. This blog is a sort of digital and more public version of all that.

Maybe out of all this I will be able to organise my own creative output more effectively. We’ll see.

Finding alternatives to the Sunrise Festival

June 1, 2008

As the Sunrise Celebration was cancelled (see previous blog), or perhaps postponed, we were able to do other things this weekend, and still keep a festival vibe and atmosphere.

Saturday we spent at the Bristol Vegan Fayre at the waterside. There was lots to see and do. Some great food (some a bit strange-Sheese and a “roast” by Yaggaa), some brilliant music (pounding beats from Misty in Roots and Dreadzone-an excellent set!, acoustic sounds from Caroline Martin and others), and some discussion and debate around the environment, animal welfare and “Green living” in general.

Sunday we visited Radford Mill Farm (see previous blog), for a chill-out cream tea and acoustic music. Again, a very good vibe at the farm, and a lovely cream tea. The clouds, though heavy with rain, passed over, and the sun managed to break through at times. A very good place to relax on a Sunday afternoon. A friendly and welcoming bunch of people.
